This was my last wedding of 2024, and let me tell you, we went out with a bang! Holly and Dan's Windsor city wedding was on a beautiful November day filled with gorgeous florals, sunshine and roof top I do's. This is your cue to have a wedding in November! Absolute magic.

Their ceremony took place on the Rooftop of The Walker Power building where we followed with bridal party photos in the lobby and the couple in their building's beautiful staircase. We then hopped in the limo for some photos down Wyandotte Street and then headed to Nico Taverna for a reception surrounded by gorgeous dimmed lighting and amazing food!

We had the pleasure of finishing the evening off with some Diwali fireworks that were happening outside on Erie Street!

Such an honour to celebrate this day with Holly and Dan and their family and friends. This day was breathtaking from start to finish. Congratulations you two!!

When Holly and Dan reached out to me, they expressed a love for my style of photography which is a blend of natural candid moments and editorial imagery. After getting to know them; how they first met and what they like to do together, I knew it was going to be a fun experience. They expressed a love for exploring urban spaces, having cocktails together and a love for music. We landed on Detroit as the ideal backdrop for their engagement session!

It wouldn't be a photo shoot without embracing the vibes and the colours of The Belt alley, grabbing a cocktail at the skip and of course a couple of photo bombs along the way. It wouldn't be Detroit without the people after all!

We also made sure to grab some photos in front of the Fox Theatre, danced down Columbia St. and finished our shoot with a roof top sunset.

These two are the real deal! And if you loved their engagement photos, don't miss their November roof top wedding in Windsor, Ontario, absolutely amazing!

Most artists become famous for their art posthumously. That’s not random; it’s because when they were making it, the people of that time didn’t find it relevant or normal. It was independent from the norm.

Artists, in contrast to their consumers, are continuously chasing what makes them feel something. Generally speaking, what is trending isn’t about feeling, it’s a reaction to what the masses are doing. At risk of going on a baby tangent… chasing a trend is a natural response as a human. It's easier for our brain to follow what is cool than to decide something is liked because we like it. Chasing a trend keeps the individual relevant to their community and algorithms love it!

I apologize for the seemingly randomness of this blog post, but I think I speak for most artists when I say that we are tired of fitting our art into the status quo when we just want to create something that makes us feel something. It's hard to continue to be inspired if all of our art is the same. Today I want to challenge you, the consumer. Instead of looking at this wedding post for what is fashionable or trending, I want you to feel it.

As your wedding photographer, I'm trying to live your day through your eyes and tell your story. I want you to look back at the photos and be able to hear your family member laughing, smell your flowers, feel the sun on your back. The photos should transport you back to how your wedding day felt.

In order to strip away what is cool or going to get this most clicks, I’m sharing almost the entire post in black and white. Of course the wedding I’m choosing was teaming with life and colour so I’ll add some pops so you can see how beautiful this September wedding day was.

This post may not see many viewers but hopefully those who do see it, are able to disconnect today and find something real.

This intimate retro inspired wedding was so fun to capture!

Let me tell you a couple of great things about this wedding:

  • Getting ready together! I have loved this since the first time I experienced a couple getting ready together back in 2018. It's so intimate and personal!
  • All of the bursts of colour! From the florals to Chris' suit jacket and wait till you scroll down to see the bold orange a fuchsia decor!
  • Choosing no formal wedding party. They still enjoyed photos with their friends but the focus was more on the two of them which left them more time to party with their friends and family.
  • Ceremony in a public park. Did you know you could choose your favourite park to get married in? Well now you know! Such a unique choice.

Breanne + Nik are an absolute treat! They were married at Willistead Manor and celebrated with their family at Beach Grove Golf + Country Club. It was a gorgeous sunny October day full of vintage inspired details.

As you scroll through these photos you'll notice a couple of major themes; the lovely vintage touches and their absolute adoration for one another. One of my absolute favourite memories from photographing their wedding day was watching Nik watch Bree during her parent's speech. Her parents were telling childhood stories and she was laughing/crying while Nik watched her reactions with so much fondness. There's a cute black and white photo below that shows the moment.

Getting to know Bree + Nik while photographing their engagement and wedding was such an honour. They are the kinds of people you want in your corner: they're down to earth, fun and oh so stylish too! Wishing you both the absolute best - cheers! - Emma
